The Endowment works with numerous partners to maintain and improve the health of working forests and to increase forest resiliency, making a material difference to address some of the most significant threats facing forests today including disease, insect infestation, and catastrophic wildfire.
Commodity Check-Off Programs
Check-off programs, also known as USDA Research & Promotion Programs, are used to develop a coordinated program of research, promotion, and consumer information to improve, maintain and expand markets for commodity products.
Healthy Watersheds Consortium Grant Program
The Healthy Watersheds Consortium Grant Program (HWC) was conceived by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), managed by the Endowment, and funded by these two and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
National Conservation Easement Database
At the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities we champion sustainable forestry through the support and funding of programs that strengthen the well-being of our forests and the communities that depend on their effective management.
Future Forest Economy Initiative
In 2018, Congress allocated $3 million to the US Economic Development Administration (EDA) to increase production, commercialization, and use of wood products in the Northern Forest region of Vermont, New Hampshire, northern Maine, and northern New York. To implement this directive, the EDA developed a cooperative agreement with the Northern Forest Center and the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities.

Supported by the Endowment and produced by Mila Alvarez, State of America’s Forests is an online multimedia guide that helps users explore the many benefits that forests provide, understand challenges facing this renewable resource, and learn about forest management and conservation.
