What We Do

We work with our partners to make a lasting impact on every aspect of the forest industry.

The Endowment champions sustainable forestry through the support and funding of programs that strengthen the well-being of our forests and the communities that depend on them.

Traditional Markets

Through strategic and targeted investments, the Endowment supports research and development in traditional forest product markets to retain and grow existing forest-based economies.

Ecosystem Markets

Water is the most important of all forest products. Non-traditional forest markets, such as the monetization of ecosystem services such as water, can provide landowners with revenue and incentivize sustainable forest management for generations to come.

Future Markets

The Endowment invests in and promotes new technologies to develop new markets ensuring that forest values will drive conservation practices and help keep forests bountiful and productive for their full range of social, ecological, and economic benefits.

Asset Creation

Through investment in rural, forest-based communities, the Endowment aims to build family wealth, improve forest health, and increase productivity through four primary mechanisms: secure land tenure, forest management plans, forest practices, and access to markets.

Forest Retention & Health

The Endowment works with numerous partners to maintain and improve the health of working forests and to increase forest resiliency, making a material difference to address some of the most significant threats facing forests today including disease, insect infestation, and catastrophic wildfire.

Impact Investing

The Endowment continuously seeks ways to increase our impact to benefit the health and vitality of the nation’s working forests and forest-reliant communities. The purpose of these investments is to support, sustain, and scale philanthropic causes that provide a sustainable, long-term benefit, while also achieving capital preservation and a positive financial return.

Legacy Programs

The Endowment’s legacy programs are long-standing initiatives that reflect its early and enduring investments in sustainable forestry, conservation, and forest-based communities. These programs have delivered lasting impact by advancing research, strengthening markets, improving forest and watershed health, and providing trusted data and tools that continue to inform policy, practice, and collaboration across the forestry sector.
