The Forest Landowner Support began in 2012 as an initiative between the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service and the Endowment to create the Sustainable Forestry and African American Land Retention Program. The initiative was centered on:
Building capacity with trusted community-based organizations who would
Provide technical and financial assistance for forest management to landowners who would
Be supported in forest product market access
This initiative advances the Endowment’s goals to:
1. Wealth creation within forest reliant communities
2. Retention of and incentivization for active forest management
SINCE 2012
the initiative has grown into broad forest landowner support across more than 14 states and territories, with approximately 5,000 landowners engaged and 222,000 acres impacted.
